GSP Rescue New England is an all-volunteer organization committed to finding loving, permanent homes for German Shorthaired Pointers in need.
Patty is a shining example of how wonderful it can be to adopt a senior GSP! Senior GSP's have so many good qualities to offer as companion pets to their owners. Patty still has plenty of stamina and energy, despite her age and has no trouble keeping up with her 4 year old foster brother, Henry (Who is also a rescue!) Yet, she settles nicely after her daily early morning walk. She is loving and affectionate and has no bad habits like destructive behavior or obsessive barking. Patty is simply grateful to have some scratches behind her ears and a few games of ball, a good meal and a warm bed to curl up in at the end of each day. Many of our past adopters have tell us their GSP's lived to be up to 15 and 16 years old! Miss Patty was surrendered to a local shelter when her owner of 12 years began to travel a lot for work and had to leave her alone for extended periods of time. Won't you consider giving her some quality time and attention in her golden years? You will not be dissapointed! To read the rest of Patty's story or to get more information on other available GSPs, view our Adoptables page.

Carlo DeVito, a somewhat wild, somewhat irresponsible, entirely devoted dog lover and 29-year-old New York City aspiring book editor rescued an incorrigible German Shorthaired Pointer, who he named Exley, while living in Park Slope, Brooklyn. From bachelorhood to adulthood, from life in the big city to survival in the suburbs, DeVito not only learns devotion and patience, through Exley, but also that you can fall in love at first sight, that obedience does bring greater freedom, and that no one minds kindness or undivided attention. "It had been Exley's job to raise me," writes DeVito. "All that time we had been having fun, going for walks, getting into trouble, being companions and friends in some great adventure. And I had spent so much time teaching him to sit, stay, lie down, roll over. But all along, he had been teaching me. It is the child that makes the man, and in this case it was a dog. All along it had been the dog doing the teaching, not me. How do you like that? And I love him for it to this day and will for the rest of my life." Filled with engaging anecdotes, on-point quotes, and true reminders of how to live life the best way possible, 10 SECRETS MY DOG TAUGHT ME is a beautiful story of friendship, maturation, and love. Bobby's story is probably the epitome of why we do Rescue work. He is also a great representation of how wonderful it can be to rescue an older dog and give them the life they deserve for the rest of their years. Updated January 2007, here is his story: Rescue was contacted by a small, remote shelter in Maine in April of 2005. They had a GSP named Bobby who was then 9 years old. He had been boarded there while his owners went away, presumably on vacation. They then failed to pick him up after boarding, claiming they could no longer keep him. He was subsequently surrendered to the Shelter's care. This was back in 2003. (Read more about Bobby's story on our Happy Endings page...) |
