Happy Endings > Duke

Duke was brought to our attention by a potential adopter who noticed him at her local Massachusetts shelter. He had been picked up as a stray. One of our volunteers quickly took him into foster care and began giving him structure and training with good results. He was still a puppy and full of puppy energy. He was named Duke, as in Marmaduke, as he was quite a goofy handful! Before long, Duke was adopted, but it didn’t work out. He was too much dog for the family that so wanted to keep him, but could not handle his big puppy energy. His original foster dad could not take him back due to travel plans for his job, so Duke was placed in foster care with another gentleman in central Massachusetts. This volunteer already had two GSP's, was experienced in training them and his job allowed him them all to live an outdoor lifestyle. His dogs got ample time outdoors and plenty of exercise in their own large, fenced yard. As months went by, Duke grew out of puppyhood and into adulthood in foster care. When Audrey, our New England coordinator, went to visit Duke and check on his progress, she was amazed! He was like a different dog!! Still playful, but calm and so sweet! It became apparent that despite the fact that we had still been searching for Duke’s forever home, he was already in it! Shortly thereafter, Duke was adopted by his foster dad and continues to live a life any dog would dream of!
